The many symptoms of soft tissue injuries

Car accident victims in Kentucky may be suffering from soft tissue injuries without knowing it. Injuries to soft tissue, which includes the muscles, ligaments and tendons, cannot be detected by X-ray. Therefore, a correct diagnosis can sometimes be difficult. Since symptoms often appear days after the incident, many victims choose to delay treatment.

These injuries occur when the impact of a collision causes the soft tissue to stretch, which causes strain, spraining or tears. Symptoms include chronic pain and inflammation as well as bleeding and loss or diminishment of motor and sensory functions. In whiplash, one of the most well-known forms of soft tissue injury, a victim may experience shooting pains and a burning, tingling sensation in their neck.

Whiplash is normally the result of rear-end collisions, which cause the head to be snapped back then forth. In addition to tearing the tissues in the neck, whiplash could damage the muscle joints and lead to a herniated disc in the spinal cord. The pain could reach down to the back and shoulders as well. Psychological conditions, such as increased anxiety and depression, often crop up, too. This could be diagnosed as PTSD.

When a negligent driver causes a car accident, the victim may have the grounds to file an injury claim. If soft tissue injuries are involved, the other party will want to see if the victim received immediate medical attention; otherwise, it could be argued that the injuries are unconnected to the crash. After the medical side is taken care of, the victim may want to see a lawyer who can assess the claim and estimate a fair settlement.
